4747 Kahala Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, 96816
The future of a vast 18,000 square foot coastline mansion on Honolulu’s prized Kahala Avenue is uncertain after it was sold for $15,200,000 in 2015. During the sale, it was indicated that the large beachfront house was set to be demolished with proposals to erect a new dwelling. Three years have passed, yet the original 1985 mansion remains intact. Subsequent to the sale, Oahu Auctions conducted an estate auction at the location to clear out all the decor. Unique items offered included a $30,000 teppanyaki dining table and a Tatami bed with koa frame and headboard that was originally valued at $20,000. Additionally, there was a 500-pound garden pagoda available with a starting bid of merely $100. The mansion featuring 16 bedrooms, 18 full bathrooms, and 3 half bathrooms was previously listed for $32,500,000 in 2010 and $26,000,000 before the sale. Originally owned by the late Honolulu lawyer David Schutter, the property was sold in 1997 for $7,200,000 to Kirin Planning Ltd. Co. The expansive 18,000 square foot mansion is set on a stunning resort-like estate spanning almost 1.5 acres with 125 linear feet adjacent to Kahala beach. In addition to the main house, the estate features two guest houses, three swimming pools, a home fitness area, and a spacious master suite adorned with exquisite wood finishes. It remains unclear who acquired the property in 2015, but we intend to monitor closely to see what actions will follow. Perhaps the new proprietors have reconsidered and will refurbish the home instead of demolishing it.
